RETIRING HOCKEY PLAYER - LOOKING TO RETIRE

When you are looking to retire from playing professional ice hockey, it is oftentimes necessary to recognize that there is going to be substantial change in your professional and business relationships. For whereas your prior business approach was centered on the hockey rink, and that remains the principal focus of your advisors and representatives (who are continuing to represent other hockey players that are presently pursuing or about to embark on their professional hockey career), that is no longer your avenue of operation.

As such, the stark reality is that a substantive change in your professional and business life is upon you, and that it is important to recognize that such a change might well necessitate a change in your business orientation. For the reality is that you are not going to be playing in the National Hockey League any more, and therefore will not be drawing a salary therefrom. Instead, you are about to embark upon a new adventure of retired professional athletes, where there are an enormous number of former players who are effectively and ineffectively utilizing their sports fame to advance their fortunes in a highly competitive job market. And as any web search of the Internet will reveal, there are far too many retired players who have gone bankrupt or are financially imperilled shortly after their playing days come to an end.

This is definitely not the scenario that you want to find yourself in and as such it makes sense to properly assess your business options and determine the appropriate professionals who should be advising you on your hockey retirement phase.
